Length

The distance measured from end to end over the deck, excluding sheer. It is the straight line measurement of the overall length from the foremost part of the boat to the aftermost part measured parallel to the centerline, excluding outboard motors.

Dry Weight

The weight of a boat without any fluids or accessories added. Heavier boats displace more water, typically resulting in slower speeds at a given horsepower.

The minimum depth of water the boat can safely navigate.

The width of the boat at it's widest point.

Max Horsepower

The maximum recommended horsepower for the hull. A motor with less than 75% of the maximum will most likely result in unsatisfactory performance.

Power To Weight Ratio

The ratio of power to weight, expressed as units of horsepower per 100 lbs. of weight, based on the max horsepower rating and dry weight of the hull.

Fuel Capacity

The amount of fuel in gallons that the boat can store. In practice, you should not fill a boat with more than 90% of the capacity of the tank.

Fuel Consumption

The amount of fuel in gallons per hour that will be consumed. The calculation is based on the following formula for full-throttle conspumtion: GPH = ((0.5 lb per HP x Max HP) / 6.1 lb per gallon). Cruise throttle consumption is based on an assumed Max RPM of 6000 with a optimal Cruise RPM at 60% of Max RPM (3600 RPM).

Fuel Consumption as a percent of Total Fuel

The percentage of a full tank of fuel (90% of total fuel capacity) consumed during 1 hour at Cruise RPM.

The numbers of hours the boat can operate at cruise throttle and full throttle, based on 90% of the total fuel capacity.

Top Speed

The projected top speed of the boat based on the formula Top Speed (TS) equals the SquareRoot (SQRT) of Horsepower (HP) divided by Displacement (D) multiplied by Crouch's Constant (C): TS = SQRT(HP / D) * C. Displacement will vary based on the actual weight of the boat including gear, fluids, and persons.

Cruise Speed

The projected cruise speed of the boat calculated as 60% of top speed (Top Speed (TS) equals the SquareRoot (SQRT) of Horsepower (HP) divided by Displacement (D) multiplied by Crouch's Constant (C): TS = SQRT(HP / D) * C. Displacement will vary based on the actual weight of the boat including gear, fluids, and persons.

Range at Cruise Speed

The projected range of the boat at cruise speed, calculated by multiplying cruise-throttle hours by cruise-throttle speed. Range is represented by an isoscelese right triangle starting and ending at the center of an octagon with stops at the ends of the two equal out-and-back legs and a stop at the midpoint of the longer hypotenuse leg, then mapped onto an octagon representing directionality.
